Developed by the Department of Health and Ageing, this brochure outlines the national physical activity guidelines for children aged 5-12 year old. It includes information on why physical activity is important, the type of activity that is recommended and how you can help in supporting children to be active and healthy.

For children aged 5-12 years, It is important that physical activity is a part of daily routine.

The two key points to note are that:

  • Children need at least 60 minutes (and up to several) hours of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day.
  • Children should not spend more than two hours a day using electronic media for entertainment (e.g. computer games, TV, internet), particularly during daylight hours.
