The National Eating Disorders Collaboration has developed a report which looks at the unintended consequences of campaigns and resources that provide weight-related messages.

Included within is a framework to help guide risk assessment of weight-related public health messages and some key tips around eating, exercise and body-image related messaging.

The Child and Adolescent Physical Activity and Nutrition Survey (CAPANS) shows that, while overweight and obesity did not change significantly from 2003 to 2008, a significantly greater proportion of girls classified as underweight in 2008. The proportion classified as underweight is of concern and ties into the key issues examined within this report.
